What Exactly is a "Hardscape"?

Terms used to describe landscape work can be confusing. Landscape maintenance companies often call themselves "landscapers". In fact, the term "landscaper" encompasses many fields -  there are landscape architects and designers who focus on design and/or drawings, landscape construction companies who install based on those designs, masons who do stone and brickwork, etc.

 

Georgia Natural Scapes is a landscape design and construction company, which means we do everything from design to installation, including bi-annual cleanup and color, but we do not offer regular scheduled "mow and blow" maintenance. About the term "hardscape"....

Hardscape is a relatively new term that was created to describe the non-plant elements within the landscape design. The hardscape must work in harmony with the overall design, and proper design and installation is crucial. These non-plant elements include:

  • Patios & Pathways
  • Steps & Stairways
  • Retaining Walls
  • Fireplaces & Fire Pits
  • Outdoor Kitchens
  • Fountains
  • Driveways & Parking Pads

Hardscaping includes the use of materials such as:

  • Stone
  • Textured Block
  • Concrete
  • Brick
  • Stucco
  • Wood
